Germany: CDU/XSS And SDPG Agreed To Form Coalition Government

Bloc of the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSS) and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SDPG), conducting negotiations on the formation of the government, reached an agreement.

The negotiation groups, led by the party leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDS) Friedrich Mertz, chairman of the Christian Social Union (CSS) Marcus Zöder and SDPG co-chairs, Lars Klingbayle and Saskia Eskein, met at the headquarters of the CDS for the final round of coalition Negotiations.

According to the German social and legal television and radio company ARD, the parties reached an agreement on the formation of the government.

Thus, 45 days after the early parliamentary elections held in Germany on February 23, the path to the formation of a new government was opened.

Coalition government of the CDU/CSS-SDPG will be formed for the fifth time in the history of Germany.

SDPG will present a coalition protocol agreed on parties to the vote of its members.

Party members will be informed of voting by mail, and voting itself will be in digital format.

Only those who are members of the party until March 23, 2025 will be able to take part in the vote.

Those who do not have the opportunity to vote in a digital way will be able to vote in the headquarters of the party. It is noted that this process will take 10-14 days.

Meanwhile, the CDU will present a coalition protocol for the vote of delegates at the “Maly Congress”. In addition, it is stipulated that the protocol will be approved by the executive council of the party.

Then the parties will sign a coalition protocol.

It is expected that the final point in the issue of government formation and voting for the chancellor in the Bundestag will be held on May 7

Representatives of the CDU/CSS and SDPG held preliminary negotiations on the formation of the government after the parliamentary elections consisting of February 23.

The parties completed preliminary negotiations on March 8, agreed on a joint text that formed the basis of coalition negotiations, and also initiated the negotiation process.

In the early parliamentary elections held in Germany on February 23, the CDU/CSS took first place, gaining 28.5 % of the vote. The second place in the election was taken by the extreme right -right party “Alternative for Germany” with a record for itself a result of 20.8%. SDPG took third place, gaining 16.4% of the vote.
