German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier signed a law on reducing the number of places in the Bundestag from 736 to 630, Zeit reports with reference to the presidential press service.
“reform aimed at reducing the number of deputies of the Bundestag, enters into force. Steinmeier signed the relevant law,” the report said.
Earlier in March, the bill was adopted by the Bundestag.
The law, in addition to reducing the number of deputy places, provides for the introduction of a tough barrier of 5 percent for passing to the Bundestag.
