Germany should not abandon sanctions against Russia. This was stated by the head of the Institute of German Economics Michael Hyter, writes Rheinische Post.
“sanctions are true because the West demonstrates its solidarity with Ukraine,” the economist said in an interview. The sanctions were adopted in close coordination with transatlantic partners and now Germany cannot abandon this solidarity.
According to Michael Huther, it is especially impossible to allow the launch of the North Stream-2 pipeline. “Discussions around” the northern stream – 2 “are fake discussions. If we connect this pipeline to the network, this will not change anything at all,” he stressed.
The expert believes that sanctions against Moscow are very effective. Particularly well shown restrictions on the export of high -tech products to Russia. “Thus, Russia has the opportunity to use only yesterday’s technique, which constantly slows down its technological progress,” he explained.
At the same time, the economist does not deny that Europe is in a less favorable position in the field of energy carriers. But he is sure that over time the situation will change, because fossil energy sources have no future. Michael Hyter is sure that in the end, Russia thereby accelerates the restructuring of the German economy towards the greater climate protection.
