Germany will lose leadership in European Union because of Russia?

Germany loses its leadership position in the European Union (EU) in connection with the energy crisis, writes Bloomberg.

As the Observer of the publication notes, for a decade, Berlin had “moral and financial authority” in the EU, actually guiding politics and “playing the role of a bad policeman” for the weaker southern economies. The energy crisis violated this balance, says the publication. “Germany’s dependence on Russia revealed the shortcomings of its economic model – industry working on cheap gas – and the blindness of its political leadership to dependence on Moscow,” writes the journalist of the publication.

While Berlin is trying to cope with the shock, the south of Europe is becoming increasingly assertive. Such consequences did not become “revenge over the years of strict savings under the leadership of Germany,” but the regrouping of forces, which ultimately can lead to “healing” of the EU, the article says.
