In Istanbul, after the restoration, the girl’s tower (Kyzkulesi, tour. Kız Kulesi) will open. Residents and guests of the city will be able to visit the tower starting on Thursday, May 11.
The girl’s tower, located on a small island in the Stambul Strait, is considered one of the iconic structures of the Turkish metropolis.
The restoration was carried out under the leadership of the Scientific Council consisting of Professor Feridun Choyla, Professor Zeynep Akhunbay and architect Khan Tulmerin, winner of the Aga Khan Prize in the field of architecture.
The work allowed the maiden tower to return the original appearance, which was during the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire of Mahmoud II.
In the course of the work, it turned out that the tower was damaged due to salts and other chemicals in concrete and cement used earlier in the repair, and the supporting columns and beams were not at all connected to each other.
The restoration used the data of the late 18th century, which contain the largest number of information and documents in sources that have survived to this day.
In the light of this information, the non -original superstructures of the roof and the castle were dismantled. Static design problems using technologies such as chemical analysis, georandal visualization systems and laser scanners were determined, and amplification methods were determined.
During georandal work, the initial walls in which voids were observed were strengthened by the injection method.
The historical main walls of the buildings were strengthened by invisible stainless steel brackets, and the original walls of the castle part were exposed. A wooden wall sheathing was made and decorative elements were made. The dome was covered with lead, its original material.
As a result of the work, zones were created where visitors will be able to walk along the wooden terrace in the yard, climb the stairs to the tower and admire Istanbul.
After the opening of the tower for residents and tourists, a unique light music show will be arranged between the Maiden and Galat Tower. It is dedicated to legends about the love of two towers, mentioned in many verses and stories. The first such show will be held on May 11, on the opening day of the girl’s tower. In the future, it will become daily.
