Deliveries of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Greece in the first quarter of 2021 decreased more than twice as compared to the same period last year, since the supply of Azerbaijani gas on the South Gas Corridor line began. This is reported by Sputnik Azerbaijan with reference to the SP Global edition.
According to the report, in the first quarter of 2021, LNG imports to Greece amounted to 0.36 billion cubic meters of gas compared with 0.97 billion cubic meters for the same period of 2020.
It also indicates that since the beginning of the 2021, Athens did not import LNG from the United States, while in 2020 the volume of liquefied gas imports from the United States to Greece was 1.47 billion cubic meters, which made the state of LNG in Southeastern Europe’s largest supplier .
Azerbaijan for the first time began to supply gas produced in the country in the Transadriatic gas pipeline (TAP) on the territory of Europe on December 31st last year. TAP is the European branch of the southern gas corridor, a binding project, on which 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas will be transported from Azerbaijan on European markets annually. The potential of the pipeline allows you to increase its bandwidth twice – up to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
