Greece Parliament In First Round Failed To Choose President Of Country

The presidential election in the Greek parliament was transferred to the second round, since not one of the candidates was able to gain enough vote.

Elections took place in the Greek parliament to determine the name that President Katerina Sakelapulu, whose term of office will expire in March.

The candidate from the ruling party “New Democracy” Kostostratinos Tasulas, a candidate from the main opposition Panelinsky socialist movement (PASOC) Tasos Yanihis, a candidate from the radical left -wing alliance Luca Kaseli and a candidate from the Victory Party Kostas Kiryaku took part in the vote. < /p>

In the 300-seater parliament, 297 deputies voted.

Tasulas took first place, receiving 160 votes, swing – 40, Janisis – 34 and Kiryak.

The number of abstained was 49 people.

Since none of the candidates gained 200 votes necessary for the election of the president in the first round, the elections were postponed to the second round.

The second round of elections will be held on January 31.
