Group of activists burst into territory of Tesla plant near Berlin

A group of activists burst into the territory of the Tesla plant near Berlin in protest against the company’s plans to expand the territory of the enterprise with the seizure of forest land.

According to the Berlin police, the protesters broke into the territory of the GIGA Berlin plant – the first Tesla enterprise in Europe, through the police barricade.

The police strengthened security measures around the building. Protesters, some of which were in masks, did not allow to get inside the enterprise.

During the riots, several activists were detained, three police officers and one of the participants in the action were injured.

The tracks in the area of the plant are blocked. Protesters are sitting on the railway tracks, in connection with which the movement of trains is suspended.

Promotions against the plan to expand the territory of the enterprise have been held since February. Then a group of ecologists set up a camp of wooden houses near the plant with a demand to refuse to cut down forests. Activists demand that the forest lands near the Tesla plant be protected.

At the GIGA Berlin factory, batteries, power units and vehicles are produced.

Tesla, owned by Ilon Mask, plans to build storage facilities and a kindergarten for children to increase the safety of supplies near a plant located on an area of 300 hectares.

It is claimed that the company’s plan will lead to cutting trees on an area of about 100 hectares.

Intensible use of water at the facility has created problems for residents of the region suffering from drought in the last five years.

It is argued that the expansion plan will also negatively affect the “water protection zone”.

at the vote held in Grunhaid in February, residents voted against the expansion of the plant.

92 hectares of trees were cut down under the primary area of the plant, which caused indignation from ecologists and the German public.
