The Kremlin considers the UN proposals to extend the Black Sea Grain initiative and promised to give an answer.
This was stated by UN Secretary General Antoniu Guterres at a press conference in Nairobi, answering the question of a “grain transaction”, the organization’s press service reports.
“If you ask me if I am optimistic, I will answer with my usual quote from Jean Monna: I am not optimistic, not pessimistic, I am determined. I think it’s good for the world. I think it’s good for the parties, and The UN will do everything possible to happen, ”said Guterrish.
He also reported that the Secretary General of the UN Conference in Trade and Development (UNKTAD) Rebka Green Span is visiting Moscow this week.
The UN leadership continues to actively interact with the Russian authorities on the Memorandum of understanding between the Russian Federation and the UN Secretariat on the promotion of Russian food and fertilizers for world markets, Guterres said.
The head of the UN said that most of the export grain from Ukraine, unlike corn, enters developing countries. He noted that in these countries there are difficulties in access to markets.
“There is a World Food Program that carries out a series of deliveries of goods to countries in difficult conditions, mainly on the African continent. For example, Somalia is one of the priorities for the World Food Program,” said Guterres.
“I believe that we have a system, and, obviously, as already mentioned, a significant part also goes to developed countries, but even this has a positive impact on all countries because prices are reduced. And when you reduce prices , everyone wins, and mainly the least developed countries get the most benefit, ”he emphasized.
At the end of April, the Secretary General submitted his proposals to extend, improve and expand the Black Sea initiative to the presidents of Russia, Ukraine and Turkey.
