Hakan Fidan: US Policy Raises Some Questions Among European Leaders

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, after the end of the meeting in Ukraine, organized by Great Britain in London, talked with representatives of the Turkish press.

The Foreign Minister of Turkey noted that the recently binded US policy raises some questions among European leaders, especially in relation to Ukraine and in general European security.

According to him, this is a very important summit, the main agenda of the meeting was Ukraine.

Participants discussed a possible peace agreement, a ceasefire and how to realize it. Fidan said that there are different ideas on this issue.

“In the light of a position occupied by the United States in recent weeks, and a gradual clarification of this position, some different opinions arose in the European Union,” Fidan said.

He emphasized the importance of Turkey’s contribution to the achievement of a peace agreement in Ukraine and restoring the architecture of European security. He emphasized that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has a great vision of how it can be realized.

He added that there are now discussions about what European leaders who have visited the United States can do and how to get together again. They have already instructed their technical groups to deal with this issue.

“There will be subsequent meetings, which, as we understand, will be more frequent. Meetings will be held more than once every six months, more than once every two months, and, possibly, once every two weeks, once every three weeks,” the minister explained.

He stated that the recent policy of the United States caused some doubts among European leaders, especially against Ukraine, and in general regarding European security.

“will the world in Ukraine, and, accordingly, will Europe have a new security architecture within this framework,” the minister said, adding that he was hoping for an immediate ceasefire, and then for a permanent peace agreement.

“What elements will do this possible? Different countries have different ideas on this issue. Our principle, as President Erdogan stated, will not be a losing side in the world. We must work on this,” Khan Fidan summed up.
