Head of BTA: “Public transport in Baku becomes environmentally friendly”

Over the past five years, 715 units of vehicles operating on liquefied natural gas were delivered to Baku. This was stated by Chairman of the Board of the Baku Transport Agency (BTA) Vusal Kerimli during the joint and natural resources of the campaign for planting trees.

According to him, according to the changes made to the legislation, public transport operating on the dieselle will not be imported into Baku from 2022.

“The legislation noted that since 2022, vehicles for public transport, especially buses, will be provided not to diesel or gasoline, but with liquefied natural gas or alternative energy sources. Currently, from 2100 buses 715 work on liquefied gas” , – he said.

V. Kerimley noted that this year another 320 buses are planned to be brought to Baku.

“These buses will work in the suburbs of Baku and other villages. Compared to buses running on gasoline and diesel fuel, liquefied gas buses emit 30-35% less heavy metals to the atmosphere,” he said .

Head of BTA noted that if in 2016, 701 million passengers were transported by public transport, then in 2019 this figure rose to 801 million.

“This happened due to the replacement of buses and public investment in the transport infrastructure. All this stimulates the use of public transport. Over the past 5 years, there have been great changes in the road infrastructure of Baku,” he said.
