Turning off Russia from the interbank telecommunications SWIFT system can badly affect the situation in Armenia. This was stated at a press conference in the Central Bank of the country, Chairman of the Central Bank Martin Galstyan, answering the question of the possible US sanctions against Russia, reports Sputnik Armenia.
In general, the possible escalation of the conflict in Ukraine is one of the most severe risks for Armenia, he added.
“Anyway, we assume that at some point the tensions will still fall out,” said Galstyan.
“For us, this is a very important factor, given the economic ties of Armenia with Russia. There are several probable scenarios, but there is no certainty, you need to wait with forecasts,” he said.
The question of which will be the consequences for Armenia, if Russian banks are disabled from SWIFT, Galstyan replied in short: “heavy.”
