PRC Chairman Xi Jinping is strongly configured about the reunification of China and Taiwan, but the CIA does not believe that he will try to do this after the Congress of the Chinese Communist Party this fall, said the director of the US Central Intelligence (CIA) William Burns, speaking at the annual forum for Security of the Aspensky Institute in Colorado.
“We should not underestimate the determination of the chairman of Xi Jinping in this regard, but this does not mean that we need to predict, as you said that after the party’s congress, he will go to action. I do not believe that the situation is the case.” Burns said, answering the question of whether China could take actions in relation to Taiwan in the near future.
He noted that according to the assessment of the CIA analysts, the question is when exactly the leadership of China decides to “use force to establish control over Taiwan.” As the head of the CIA pointed out, the risk that China will take the island, it will become higher and will be even more during the current decade.
