Russian servicemen within the framework of the peacekeeping operation on the territory of Karabakh are concentrated on the return of prisoners, the implementation of infrastructure projects and solving other humanitarian tasks, the head of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov said.
“In addition to controlling the cease-fire and all hostilities, the efforts of our peacekeepers are focused on the restoration of peaceful life in the region, and humanitarian tasks are successfully solved,” the words of Gerasimov TASS quoted on a briefing before the military attasses of foreign states.
The main of these tasks called “demining the terrain and objects, the return of prisoners of war and retained persons, the search for the bodies of the dead, ensuring the safety of the delivery of humanitarian goods and the implementation of infrastructure projects.”
“Russian armed forces continue to perform peacekeeping tasks in Karabakh. More than a year ago, it was possible to stop the bloody war and create the conditions for restoring peace in the region. In order to reduce the tension and compliance with the cease-fire regime by Russian peacekeepers, duty was organized on observation posts and patrols of the district peacekeeping operation, “said Gerasimov.
He also reminded that “a joint Russian-Turkish Center is operating in the Agdam district of Azerbaijan to control the cessation of fire and all hostilities from January of this year.”
