Head Of Magate Expressed Concern To Construction Of Tunnel Near Nuclear Facility In Natanze

General Director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariana Grossy expressed concern about the lack of informing from Iran on the construction of a deep tunnel in the area of the nuclear facility in the city of Natanz.

Speaking in the capital of the United States, Washington, Grossy said that according to satellite pictures near the Natanz object, a deep tunnel was under construction. The agency demanded explanations from Tehran, but there was no answer.

According to Grossy, this issue was repeatedly raised in a dialogue with the Iranian side, and negotiations will continue. He emphasized that the Magate member countries are obliged to notify any construction and similar work near nuclear facilities, however, Iran, according to him, shows “unprecedented” closeness in this matter.

“We ask why this is necessary, and they answer:” This does not concern you “, – said the head of the agency.

Grossy added that he does not intend to make speculative statements about Iran’s nuclear program, but he emphasized that there are no guarantees that unnecessary nuclear substance would not be placed in the new tunnel.

Magate has long been faced with serious problems in cooperation with Iran, including difficult access to objects, lack of transparency in reserves of uranium enriched above 60%, and difficulties in confirmation and observation of nuclear activities.

In the meantime, it was reported that on April 12 in Oman a new round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the USA began under the nuclear program, which continued on April 19-20 in Rome. It is expected that negotiations will again be transferred to Oman.
