New Zealand and Turkey are connected by friendly and strong ties. This was said by the Minister of Defense of New Zealand Andrew Little at an event organized in the area of Anzak Peninsula Helibolu in connection with the 108th anniversary of the victory in the land battles of the battle of Chanackala.
In addition to Little, the event was attended by the Minister of Australian Veterans Matt Kio and Lieutenant General of the Australian Army Greg Bilton.
Little expressed the condolences of Turkey in connection with the death of more than 50 thousand people during the February earthquakes with epicenters in Kazhramanmarash.
The hospitality and warm reception of the people and the government of Turkey amid the consequences of the February earthquakes are a sign of strong and sincere relations between the two countries, the head of the department noted.
In turn, the Minister of Australian Veterans Matt Kio said that he was considering participating in the event with a special honor and also expressed the condolences of Turkey in connection with the destructive consequences of earthquakes on February 6.
He attracted attention to the fact that in Turkey, New Zealand and Australia, Chanackale is part of national stories transmitted from generation to generation. “We are not here to glorify the war. We came to pay tribute, to honor the memory of those who sacrificed their lives, limbs, mind and soul in the war,” the minister added.
