One of the influential members of the Iranian government, the Minister of the Interior, the Ex-Minister of Defense General Ahmed Vahidi made a statement aimed at mitigating tensions in relations with Azerbaijan in recent days. “The misunderstandings between Azerbaijan and Iran will be resolved diplomatic means.” His statement quotes the Turkish newspaper Star.
Speaking at the presentation of the appointed Governor of Ardebil, Vahidi noted that Iran attaches great importance to friendly relations with all neighbors. Commenting on the controversy, which arose in connection with the Iranian military exercises near the borders of Azerbaijan, he said that some countries have developed a conspiracy plan to ruin the relationship between Azerbaijan and Iran.
“If there is misunderstanding, they will be eliminated by a diplomatic way. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is engaged in this issue,” said Ahmed Vahidi. The Minister of the Interior added that Iran encourages neighboring countries to cooperate and dialogue. “Iran attaches special importance to friendly relations with neighboring states. In the policy of the new government, relations with neighbors are priorities, and we will continue to support friendly relations with them. We express our friendly feelings to neighboring countries and Azerbaijan,” he stressed.
One of the hawks in the team of Iranian conservatives Ahmed Vahidi held the post of Minister of Defense in the Government of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and is one of the key figures in the office of the current President Ibrahim Raisa.
Recall that the Iranian army began large-scale teachings on the border with the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, and earlier some Iranian politicians, religious figures made statements against Azerbaijan, damage to relations between the two countries.
