In Kamchatka, the highest active volcano of Eurasia – Klyuchevskaya began to erupt. This was reported to the Russian State Media by the head of the Kamchatka response group to volcanic eruptions (Kvert), the leading researcher at the Institute of Volcanology and Seismology of the Fear for the RAS Olga Girina.
“It was recorded not just a glow at night, but by the vertical explosive eruption of the Strombolian type. So far, such an eruption is not dangerous to anyone: neither the population nor aviation,” Girina said.
A bright thermal anomaly is noted in satellite images, spasmodic trembling is recorded, the ash emissions have not yet been observed, she said.
At night, a glow of lava was observed, which already appeared in the western part of the vertex crater. This was recorded by video surveillance cameras installed in the observatory in the village of Key.
So far, the “yellow” hazardous danger code for aviation has been assigned to the volcano, since the ash emissions are not observed. If activity increases significantly, emissions can be dangerous for air equipment.
The last vertex of the Klyuchevskaya volcano occurred from September 30, 2020 to February 8, 2021
Klyuchevskaya is the highest active volcano on the continent, its height is 4,750 m. The last eruption of the volcano occurred in October 2020. The nearest settlement – the village of Klyuchs of the Ust -Kamchatka District – is located on the slope of the volcano 30 km from the crater.
