On the eve of the Secretary of the Council of Security of Armenia, Armen Grigoryan, in an interview with the Armenian media, said that Armenia and Azerbaijan intend to sign a peace treaty until the end of 2022. According to Grigoryan, during a meeting with the US Presidential Advisor Jacka Sullivan and Assistant President Azerbaijan Hikmet Gadzhiev, the terms of a peace treaty were discussed, that is, to sign an agreement before the end of the year. Grigoryan also noted that an agreement was reached to carry out the process of delimitation by the end of the year. The peace treaty and delimitation are interconnected.
In connection with these statements, Armen Grigoryan Haqqin.az addressed the commentary to the assistant to the President of Azerbaijan – the head of the foreign policy department of the presidential administration Azerbaijan Hikmet Gadzhieva.
– What can you say in connection with the latest statement by the Secretary of the Security Council Armenia Armen Grigoryan regarding negotiations held on September 27, 2022 in Washington on the initiative of Jake Sullivan, adviser to the US President on National Security?
– For starters, I would like to once again express my gratitude to Jake Sullivan for organizing these negotiations. We welcome the efforts that have recently made US officials to normalize Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. I would also like to emphasize that negotiations in Washington were carried out in a clear accordance with a pre -agreed agenda of the day, which was built according to the canons of the Brussels format. Negotiations covered the following areas:
– Peace Treaty.
– Delimitation of borders.
– restoration of communications.
– Humanitarian issues that include the situation with persons missing, and a mine problem.
Negotiations held in Washington and other places adhered to the Brussels agenda and were devoted exclusively to issues of peaceful regulation. In Washington, it was decided that negotiations should be conducted with the establishment of specific temporary framework concluding a peace treaty. In this regard, the draft peace treaty itself was previously submitted at the meeting of foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Geneva.
I emphasize that the project included the standard provisions contained in such agreements on the normalization of relations between the two countries. In particular, the peace treaty involves the mutual recognition of sovereignty and territorial integrity, non -interference in internal affairs, etc.
