Chairman of the House of Representatives of Libya Akile Salekh and the chairman of the presidential council Muhamed al-Menfi expressed satisfaction with the decision of the United Nations (UN) to extend the mandate of the UN mission in Libya (Moonl).
The speaker of the House of Representatives Salekh in his written statement noted that “the UN decision to extend the mandate Moonple confirms its willingness to support the Libyan people.”
On the other hand, the chairman of the Libyan Presidential Council of Menfi, in his statement on social networks, emphasized the importance of the UN mission in Libya and expressed satisfaction with the extension of its mandate.
The UN Security Council on October 31 voted to extend the UN mission mandate in Libya (Moonpl) until January 31, 2025.
MOUNLE is known as a special political mission established by the UN Security Council on September 16, 2011 at the request of the Libyan authorities to support the political transition process in the country as a result of the 2011 conflict.
The mission, which includes 98 local employees, 210 international employees and 6 UN volunteers, is working to stop the division of military forces and economic institutions in Libya and acts as an intermediary between the conflicting parties.
The special envoy of the UN in Libya Abdulaye Batili on April 16 submitted a resignation to the UN Secretary General Antoniu Gutereresh.
After the resignation of Batin, the new representative was not appointed to the UN mission to support Libya, and the mission remained under the control of the current deputy head Stephanie Kuri.
