How many migrants arrived in Azerbaijan this year

After a sharp decline due to a coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and this year, migration to Azerbaijan began to grow again. This was told by Haqqin.az Chairman of the Public Council under the State Migration Service of Azerbaijan Azer Allahveranov.

According to him, in January-September of this year, 119 thousand foreigners appealed for registration at the place of residence. In 2019, such appeals were almost 398 thousand and in 2020 due to rigid quarantine restrictions on entry and departure to the country there was a sharp decline in migration – only about 112 thousand arrivals of foreigners.

A significant role in the growth of migration this year was played by the opening of the land border with neighboring countries, in particular from Russia and Georgia, noted Allahveran.

For the specified period, Azerbaijani law enforcement agencies revealed 6,540 illegal migrants in the country. In 2021, due to the violation of various articles of Azerbaijani legislation, 2,440 foreigners banned entry into the country.
