In Hungary on Sunday, June 9, a vote in the elections to the European parliament and local authorities.
Power stations throughout the country opened at 06.00 and will close at 19.00 local time. The right to vote in Hungarian elections with a population of about 9.7 million people have 8.2 million people.
In addition to the 21 member of the European Parliament, 3,177 heads of municipalities and deputies of local parliaments will have to be elected. For places in the European Parliament and local municipalities, 11 parties and alliances compete.
The election campaign was held against the backdrop of discussions on such topics as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, anti-war statements by Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who has been in power in the country for more than 14 years, tension in relations with the leadership of the European Union and crisis in connection with illegal migrants.
The most interest regarding local elections is given the question of whether to control the capital under the control of the coalition led by Orban. In the elections held in Hungary in October 2019, the post of head of the capital’s municipality was occupied by Gergeli Karachon, a single candidate from opposition parties.
