Budapest will impose a veto on any European proposal, which will lead to restriction of energy imports from Russia, said the Hungarian Minister, head of the Office of Hungarian Prime Minister Gergel Gulyash. It is reported by Bloomberg.
“We clearly made it clear that we will never support the expansion of the sanctions of the European Union against Russia for energy,” Golyash said.
Hungary, which largely depends on Russian energy, actively opposes the expansion of sanctions.
“Since such decisions need unanimity, it makes no sense to offer sanctions on natural gas and raw oil for the European Commission that restricted purchases in Hungary,” Gulyash said.
It was previously reported that the government of Viktor Orban agreed with Russia to allow the conversion of their payments for gas to rubles.
