The spouse of the Queen of Great Britain – 99-year-old Prince Philip – successfully underwent surgery for heart disease, British media reported, citing a statement from Buckingham Palace.
“The Duke of Edinburgh the day before (March 3) successfully underwent surgery for heart disease at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital,” the Royal Palace Chancellery said in a statement.
The document notes that “His Royal Highness will remain in the hospital for several days for treatment, rest and recovery.”
The Duke of Edinburgh is currently undergoing treatment at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, where he was transported there on March 1 from the hospital of King Edward VII.
The day before, it was reported that he was on the mend. The Buckingham Palace said that “doctors will continue to treat him for the infection, as well as check and monitor pre-existing heart problems.”
The spouse of Elizabeth II has been in hospitals for over two weeks, the longest period he has ever been hospitalized.
