Germany plans to establish contact with the Taliban, this task will be performed by German diplomat Marcus Potton, who will soon go to Afghanistan, reports the Welt Am Sonntag newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the Federal Government of Germany considers the establishment of contacts with the “Taliban” as an opportunity to expand humanitarian activities in Afghanistan and counteract the movement of refugees from this country.
The publication notes that the German government seeks to improve communication with the Taliban who came to power in Kabul in mid-August.
Germany also considers the possibility of recognizing passports issued by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, as the Government of the Taliban calls itself. It can contribute to the departure of Afghans from the country.
