The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland announced the suspension of the embassy in Moscow from August 1.
“This is a difficult decision, since Iceland has maintained rich relations with the people of Russia since we gained independence in 1944. However, the current situation simply does not allow the Small diplomatic service of Iceland to have an embassy in Russia,” said the Foreign Minister Torsdis Hilpadottir.
The decision to suspend the activities of the embassy is not a break in diplomatic relations. As soon as the conditions allow, Iceland will pay priority attention to the resumption of the work of its mission in Russia, emphasized in the Icelandic Foreign Ministry.
