December 8, under the joint organization of the National Commission of the Azerbaijan Republic on UNESCO, the State Agency for Tourism, the Azerbaijan National Committee of ICOMOS, the Azerbaijani National Committee of ICOM and the Institute of Development and Diplomacy of the University of ADA, an international scientific conference on “The role of UNEESCO conventions in the preservation of cultural values will be held and aspects of improving their application. “
Today, the visit of the conference participants to the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan took place. The guests examined the Imrat complex in Agdam, Alley of Shehids, Drama Theater, Juma-Mosch. Then they visited places near the minefields, cemeteries, the location of religious monuments in the liberated part of the Fizulinsky district, as well as the airport in Fizuli. At the same time, they got acquainted with the traces of environmental terror in these regions.
About 20 foreign experts from 10 foreign countries took part in the trip, including ICOMOS Vice-President Zainab Gul Unal, chairman of the ICOMOS working group to preserve cultural heritage in Syria and Iraq Samir Abdulak, President of the Pakistani National Committee of ICOMOS Fausia Hussein Kureshi , President icom-İcme Ralph Kiplak Menchin.
Note that thanks to the efforts of the Azerbaijani National Committee of ICOMOS, created on the initiative and with the support of the State Agency for Tourism, it was possible to organize an official visit to the leadership of this authoritative organization to Azerbaijan.
icomos (International Council for Monuments and Historical Places) is the world’s largest international organization for the preservation of material and cultural heritage. Including more than 10,000 members, national committees in 104 countries, ICOMOS is also one of the three official consultative bodies of UNESCO.
The Azerbaijani National Committee ICOMOS began active activity since last year. On April 18, 2022, a scientific conference was held in Baku, organized by the committee in connection with the International Day of Monuments and Historical Places. On October 25-31, 2022, at the annual meeting in the Kingdom of Thailand, the Azerbaijani National Committee ICOMOS was elected one of the two co-chairs at the organization’s genessab user.
Another international conference organized with the support of the Azerbaijani National Committee of ICOMOS and the State Agency for Tourism will also contribute to the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of cultural tourism in our country.
