Ilham Aliyev Approved Azerbaijan’s Accession To D-8 Charter

President Ilham Aliyev approved Azerbaijan’s accession to the charter of the organization of economic cooperation of eight developing countries (Islamic Eight, D-8). On Saturday, March 15, the press service of the head of the Azerbaijani state reports.

According to the law, the Republic of Azerbaijan has joined the “Charter of the Organization of Economic Cooperation of Eight Developing Countries”, signed on November 22, 2012 in the city of Islamabad.

December 19, 2024, during the Cairo XI XI D-8, the Republic of Azerbaijan, was unanimously elected a member of the organization.

“Islamic eight” with a total population of the participating countries of more than one billion people and a total GDP exceeding $ 4 trillion, includes leading Islamic geography economies.

The main areas of the D-8 are agriculture and food safety, trade, transport, industry and energy, work in the field of health and tourism continues. The coordination of the work of these sectors is distributed between member countries.

Among the goals of the D-8 come to the fore: Improving the situation of countries participating in the global economy, identifying new opportunities in commercial ties, expanding participation in decision-making processes at the international level and raising the standard of living of the population.

The main goals of the D-8 were listed in the declaration of the first 1997 summit as “peace, dialogue, cooperation, justice, equality and democracy.”

“Islamic Eight” seeks to strengthen the positions of the participating countries in the global economy and create new opportunities in commercial relations, to strengthen the participation of these countries in international decision-making mechanisms. D-8 also attaches great importance to the development of alternative and renewable energy sources.
