The topic of competition between Baku and Moscow in the supply of gas to Europe is very exaggerated and unreasonably politicized. The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said this in an interview with the Spanish publication “El PAIS”.
“The problem of competition is greatly exaggerated and unreasonably politicized. Our gas supplies (to Europe – IF) can not compete with Russian,” – quotes the head of state Interfax.
The President stressed that this issue was never discussed with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I can tell you that we have never discussed this question. We regularly meet several times a year and constantly speak the phone, but he never raised this topic,” he said.
Head of State noted that Azerbaijan began to supply gas to Europe on the “Southern Gas Corridor” (UGK).
Our gas is new for European markets. We know that the demand for natural gas in Europe will grow due to some decisions made by individual countries within their energy strategy. And here Azerbaijan is a reliable partner of Europe, “said Azerbaijan He, adding that Baku is ready to negotiate with the EU countries, which also want to buy Azerbaijani gas.
