The International Labour Organization (ILO) has been ranked as the best United Nations agency in Geneva for interns by the Fair Internship Initiative (FII).
It is the second consecutive occasion that the ILO has taken the top spot for the quality of its internship programme.
The UN Internships Quality Index grades internship programmes from ‘Very Poor’ to ‘Very Good’ in four areas: Equal Opportunities, Application and selection process, Completion of the internship and career development, and Onboarding and internship period.
The Index was created in 2019 by the FII, a group of current and former UN interns and consultants advocating for higher quality and fairly paid internships in the United Nations System. The rankings were not compiled in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The goal of the Index is to raise awareness about the strengths and weaknesses of UN internship programmes and to encourage and recognize positive reforms.
“Developing and strengthening the ILO internship programme has been an amazing experience. We have learnt a lot from the feedback provided by our interns. We believe that meaningful internships are essential to successfully engage with young talent and bring diversity and new ideas to our organization,” said Luca Bormioli, Officer-in-Charge of the ILO’s Human Resources Department.
