IMF and Ukraine have reached preliminary agreement on new help trench worth $ 2.2 billion

International Monetary Fund (IMF) will make a final decision on a new trench for Ukraine in the amount of $ 2.2 billion in the coming weeks.

According to the press service of the organization, the Employees of the IMF and the authorities of Ukraine reached a preliminary agreement on the fourth review [of the country’s economy within the framework of] the expanded lending mechanism (EFF).

The discussion of the new tranche took place on May 27-31 in Warsaw. The agreement is subject to approval by the Executive Council of the IMF, the consideration of which is expected in the coming weeks, follows from the message.

The updated economic and tax-budget policy was also agreed on to maintain macroeconomic stability and promote economic reforms, the Foundation said.

The economy of Ukraine demonstrated steady growth until the first quarter of 2024, however, against the backdrop of the continuation of hostilities, risks for the Ukrainian economy are high and “prospects for the rest of the year remain extremely vague,” the fund emphasized.

IMF approved the EFF expanded lending program for Ukraine in March 2023. The amount of support for four years will amount to $ 15.6 billion.
