On the territory of the ancient city of Stratonikiy in the Turkish province of Mugla, known as the “City of the Gladiators”, an event dedicated to World Table Tennis Day was held.
An ancient city located in the Yatagan area took on athletes and lovers of table tennis.
As part of the event, young athletes and participants held matches on the tables installed at the building of the Parliament of the Ancient City. Visitors were given the opportunity to feel both a universal spirit of sports and a thousand -year history of sights.
The representative of the Table Tennis of the Province of Muggla Gulselin Gurmek said that in the ancient city the opportunity was given to survive a completely different experience that combines the unifying power of sports with ancient history.
In turn, a table tennis coach Mehmet Bagbur Ustyundag said that this year an event dedicated to World table tennis Day was held in the stratiniker.
“The most important reason why the choice fell on the stratony is a connection with the ancient Olympic Games,” he said.
Meanwhile, the head of the excavations of the ancient city, Professor Bilal, noted that the 2200-year-old sports school in the stratonicity is one of the most monumental structures in the ancient city.
In ancient times, the city was especially closely connected with sports, many events were held on its territory, ”he said.
