On the night of January 19-20, 1990, the Soviet empire introduced heavy military equipment against the civilian population of Azerbaijan, who tried to rightly oppose Armenian vandalism, injustice committed against our compatriots. As a result of the illegal entry of the troops of the Soviet Army in Baku and the districts of Azerbaijan, 146 were killed, 744 were injured, 841 people were illegally arrested. The military personnel of the Soviet Army was damage to 200 homes and apartments, 80 cars, including ambulance cars, state and personal property were destroyed as a result of fires caused by incendiary bullets. However, despite all these atrocities, the morale of the Azerbaijani people was not suppressed, on the contrary, decisive steps were taken on the path to independence.
In those difficult days, the General leader Heydar Aliyev spoke in Moscow in connection with the tragedy on January 20, painfully responded in the heart of the Azerbaijani people. On January 21, 1990, Heydar Aliyev visited the Permanent Mission of Azerbaijan in Moscow, where it strongly condemned this atrocity, revealed the reasons for his commitment, declared the name of the organizers and the perpetrators to the world.
Today, the Republic of Azerbaijan is recognized in the world as an independent state. As a result of counter-referral operations, which began on September 27, 2020, under the leadership of the Supreme Commander Ilham Aliyev and immortalized in history as a 44-day domestic war, the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan restored the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
