In Armenian parliament, strengthen security measures

Enhanced security measures in the Armenian parliament will be taken in the future. With such a statement, Vice-Speaker Alain Simonyan spoke, commenting on the appearance of metal detectors before entering the meeting room.

Simonyan, who has to take the post of chairman in the parliament of the new convocation, reminded the tragic events in the building of the National Assembly – starting with the terrorist attack on October 27, 1999 and ending with the attack on the speaker of Ararat Mirzoyan and the invasion of the protesters after the signing of a tripartite agreement last November.

“We will take more steps to improve the level of security in the building of the National Assembly,” SPUTNIK SPUTNIK quotes.

He clarified that the purpose of installing metal detectors before the meeting room is to exclude the possibility of entering the weapon.

To the question, whether he is afraid of journalists (Simonyan noted that a journalist was one of the executors of the shooting in the NA), the Vice-Speaker of the Armenian Parliament answered negatively: “I look like a person who is afraid of journalists?”
