The first bloodshed in the city market of Markale occurred on February 5, 1994. As a result of artillery shelling from the Serbian military, 68 people were killed, another 144 people were injured.
The second bloodshed, made by the Serbian military in the city market, occurred on August 28, 1995. 43 civilians became victims of this attack, another 75 were injured.
In Sarajevo, who was in a siege position of 44 months during the war in Bosnia, 11,541 people died, including almost 2,000 children.
The International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague confirmed that attacks on the market were committed by Serbian troops.
The commander of the Bosnian Serbs Dragomir Milosevich, responsible for the massacre, was sentenced to 29 years in prison.
In addition, the former Serbian commander Stanislav Galich was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Hague for the siege of Sarajevo and crimes against humanity.
