In Connection With Death Of Ex-Prime Minister, 4-day Mourning Was Announced In Greece

In Greece, in connection with the death of the former Prime Minister Kostas Simitis, a four-day national mourning was declared

According to the information of the Greek state television of ERT, the costs of the funeral of the 88-year-old Simitis will be covered from the state budget.

The funeral ceremony will take place on January 9 at 12:00 local time in accordance with the protocol intended for “persons who died at the Prime Minister.”

In connection with the announced national mourning, flags at all state institutions will be visible within four days.

In the morning, Simitis was taken to the Corinfos hospital by ambulance, where doctors confirmed his death upon arrival.

Simitis, born in 1936, was one of the founders of Pasok, a party, which was several times in power in Greece.

During the reign of Pasok, Simitis occupied many ministerial posts, and from 1996 to 2004 he was both the leader of the party and the Prime Minister.

Simitis received an education in the field of law and economics, and also taught at a number of universities.
