Europe cannot have “normal relations” with Russia, which unleashed a war in Ukraine, said German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbok in an interview with the Romanian publication Digi24.
“We must clearly understand: there can be no normal relationship with this Russia. Like many Russians, we want to see peaceful and democratic Russia, which does not pose a threat to our neighbors. But we are not feeding illusions – now we live in another reality “, – said Berbok.
In her opinion, the European Union should strengthen its security system and continue to impose sanctions against Russia until the war ends. Berbok noted that Ukraine protects not only itself, but also “freedom of Europe”, so the EU will “be as much as necessary”, providing military, humanitarian and financial assistance.
At the same time, Germany President Frank-Walter Steinmeier noted that the invasion of Ukraine led to the “epochal break” of relations with Russia, and now Berlin lives, fearing that the fire of the war will cover the whole of Europe. “When we look at today’s Russia, there is no place for old dreams in it. Today our countries are opposed to each other,” the German politician emphasized.
