The risk of war in Europe is currently much higher than ever over the past 30 years, Chairman of the Safety and Cooperation Organization in Europe (OSCE), Poland Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, said.
“It seems that the risk of war in the OSCE region is now higher than ever in the last 30 years,” said Rau.
“Currently, member countries face various challenges of the world and security. Prophetic conflicts, military confrontation, radicalization, terrorism, together with the weakening of the arms control regime, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms lead to an increase in uncertainty, unpredictability and strengthening fear in our societies, “he stressed.
Rau stated that the OSCE should be focused on efforts to solve security issues in Eastern Europe, in particular, for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in the East of Ukraine: “We need to concentrate on a peaceful solution to the conflict around Ukraine in accordance with Minsk agreements and respecting sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of Ukraine. “
“For several weeks, we are faced with the possibility of a major military escalation in Eastern Europe. We recently recently reached the requirements for security guarantees, which relate to the important part of the OSCE area,” added Rau.
