In 2021 in Georgia, the lowest index of the natural growth of the population may be recorded due to the coronavirus pandemic, the head of the Committee on Health and Social Affairs of the Parliament of the country Dmitry Hundadze said.
“Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic further worsens the demographic picture in Georgia, and possibly in 2021 we will have the lowest index of the population in the last 60 years,” SPUTNIK SPUTNIK quotes.
According to the deputy, taking into account the existing reality, the Health Committee will revise the demographic security document, adopted in 2016.
It is noted that in 2020 for the first time in the past 30 years in Georgia, a negative population increase was recorded. It has been preserved in the first half of 2021.
