In Hong Kong, created stainless steel from Covid-19

Scientists from the University of Hong Kong have created the first “antique” stainless steel, capable of destroying coronavirus on its surface. This is stated in the published statement of a scientific institution, reports TASS.

According to information, the novelty was represented by Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Engineering Faculty of Juan Mincin, together with the research team from the Center for the Study of Immunities and Infectious Diseases of the Medical Faculty of University.

Scientists adjusted the chemical composition and microstructure of stainless steel, which received an elevated copper content with antibacterial properties.

It is noted that the new alloy is capable of destroying on its surface not only coronavirus SARS-COV-2, but also the H1N1 flu virus, as well as an intestinal wand. At the same time, the usual stainless steel does not have such properties.

According to Professor Juan Mincin, a new type stainless steel can be launched into mass production based on existing technologies. Scientists already establish communication with metallurgical enterprises, in order to test the innovative material when creating products made of steel, which are widely used. In particular, it is said about the handles, door handles, buttons in elevators. With the help of new development, it is possible to significantly reduce costs and time on regular disinfection in common areas with a large cluster of people.
