The Parliament of Latvia approved the draft law, providing that on May 9 of this year will be the day of the memory of the victims and those killed in Ukraine. The adopted law provides that on this day, which coincides with the day, when the Victory Day was widely noted in Latvia, it is forbidden to conduct massive entertainment and festive events. Self-government will not be able to issue permits for conducting such events. This is reported by the Latvian news portal DELFI.
The abstract of the bill states that its goal is to attract the attention of Latvian society to the military invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine, to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people in the struggle for sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the Ukrainian state. May 9 will be announced throughout Latvia in the afternoon of memory of the victims of Ukraine, in honor of the dead Ukrainian civilians and military personnel of the Armed Forces.
May 8 and 9 will be prohibited salutes.
It is planned that the law will come into force the day after the publication and will lose force on May 11, 2022.
