One person became a victim of a natural fire in Greece. The fire, which began on Sunday, August 11 in the town of Barnabas in the metropolitan region of Attica, spread to the Vrilissia area due to strong winds.
According to Greek media, the charred body was discovered by firefighters during the search measures in one of the offices in the Vrilissia area (suburban municipality of the regional unit of northern Athens in the Attic region).
The news reported that the body belonged to a woman about 65 years old, missing during a fire and whose fate was not known.
The authorities reported that at the moment more than 100 thousand hectares of land burned. In the area of the Penteli Mountain and Lake Marathon there are many foci of fire, where 702 firefighters and 199 units of equipment arrived, the authorities noted.
In addition, the evacuation of three hospitals and a number of monasteries is reported.
It is noted that as of Sunday, on August 11, 5 firefighters were injured, two of which were hospitalized.
On the eve of the press secretary of the Greece Fire Service Vasilios Vatrakoannis announced the difficult conditions of the work of fire calculations and demanded from citizens to comply with the recommendations of evacuation.
Vatrakoannis noted that some of those who refused to submit to the order of evacuation were trapped in their homes. “Firefighters risk their lives during rescue operations. Citizens must comply with the order of evacuation,” he said.
According to him, the police and fire brigades evacuated more than 200 people, most of whom were older people and did not heed warnings.

Meteorological services and Greek authorities warned citizens about an increase in the number of forest fires due to weather conditions that will last until Thursday.
