In plays of Shakespeare found racist statements

British cultratologists stated that some plays of William Shakespeare should be considered “controversial”. In the works of playwright, experts saw racist statements about the beauty of “whiteness of the skin”, and also noticed the frequent opposition of “dark” and “light”, reports Daily Telegraph.

According to the newspaper, the Globus Theater The Seminars “Anti-Raisian Shakespeare”, dedicated to the decolonization of his plays, passes. As part of the course, experts also seek to discuss controversial moments that may prevent perception and execution of his creativity.

At the first meeting, the experts analyzed the comedy “Sleeping on the Summer Night”, in which they found “controversial gender and racial dynamics.” According to scientists, the “binary system of dark and light” can be traced in the play, where a positive role is given to light. Professor Vanessa Correder emphasized that such a comparison is found in each work of Shakespeare. “Each play of race, because whiteness is mentioned in each of them,” she said.
