The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey initiated work on the reconstruction of a wooden statue of a horse in the ancient city of Troy, the history of which has 5500 years.
The statue of the Trojan horse stands at the entrance to the ancient city of Troy, located in the vicinity of the Tevfiki village in the province of Chanakkale. The Trojan horse gained its wide popularity thanks to the two poems of Homer – Iliad and Odyssey.
The construction of a wooden statue began in 1973 at the suggestion of the director of the Museum of Chanakkale Ilkhan Akshita. A wooden statue 15 meters high was open to visits in 1974.
, in the framework of restoration work, the worn parts of the wooden statue were updated. At the moment, the restoration work of the horse is nearing completion. It is assumed that the statue will be open to visits within the framework of the Chanackale Cultural Path festival, which will be held from August 31 to September 8.
In an interview with an anadol correspondent, the director of the museum Troe Troya Rydwan Göljyuk said that the Trojan horse, which is mentioned in the legend of three and has been described as a military trick for centuries, is one of the most important world symbols.
According to him, in 1974, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism voiced the idea to establish in the area of the ancient city of Troy a wooden horse.
“The horse was erected at this place 50 years ago, in 1974, and subsequently the wooden statue became so popular that it turned into a symbol of Chanackale. In fact, its popularity goes beyond, perhaps it has become even one of the 10 most important symbols Turkey, ”said the director of the museum.
The ancient city of Troy is visited annually by about 1 million visitors, both local and foreign. Tourists hold photo shoots here, take pictures against the background of a wooden horse, he added.
