The police in the Rostov region are looking for four fighters of the Somali battalion who escaped from the war zone. According to Russian media, they are armed with machine guns.
According to orientations, deserters from 28 to 40 years old, two of them were born in Donetsk. One of them previously served in the “People’s Police of the DPR”. On the territory of the Rostov region, they were on February 15. Where we went further is unknown.
A separate Somali assault battalion was created in 2014 under the leadership of Mikhail Tolstoy (Givi) – one of the famous commanders of pro -Russian separatists in the Donbass. According to the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, with the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Somali battalion began to recruit convicts. To do this, at the landfill in Torez in the fall of 2022, a camp was launched, where convicted people who agreed to fight against Ukraine were taken. The ex-Minister of Defense of the “DPR” Igor Girkin (Strelkov), comparing it with the Wagner PMC, also stated the convicts in the Somali battalion.
