Russia is a supporter of the creation of a bilateral commission for demarcation and delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. This was announced today at a briefing by the official representative of the Foreign Ministry of Russia Maria Zakharova.
According to her, Moscow consistently advocates the creation of a bilateral commission with the assistance of Russia.
“As noted in the Sochi Agreement of Leaders of November 26, 2021, to start the process, steps must be taken to increase the level of stability and security on the border of the two countries. This issue was also discussed at a tripartite meeting of the foreign ministers of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia in Dushanbe. The parties said that they are completing the process of forming national delegations of commissions.
Russia has already formed its expert group. We hope that in the near future it will be possible to begin practical work on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border. We are convinced that to prevent any border incidents, it is necessary that the Delimitation Commission of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border begins to work. Within the framework of this commission, mechanisms for strengthening trust may be created. For example, a contact group for ensuring stability in the border areas, etc., can be created, ”said Zakharova.
