In Russia, They Form Service On Citizenship And Registration Of Foreigners

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the improvement of public administration in the field of migration. The corresponding decree is published on the Kremlin website.

“In order to improve public administration in the field of migration, I decide to form on the basis of the Main Directorate on Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation a service on citizenship and registration of foreign citizens of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation,” the text of the document says.

The first deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Head of the Service for Citizenship and Registration of Foreigners was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General Andrei Kikot.

“To appoint Kikota Andrei Vladimirovich, the first deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation – the head of the Service for Citizenship and Registration of Foreign Citizens of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, having relieved him from his position,” the document says.

Putin also instructed the government for three months to prepare a report on the maximum regular number of internal affairs bodies and the central apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as ensure financing the costs associated with the creation of a new service.

The Main Directorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was created in 2016 on the basis of the abolished Federal Migration Service.

The Russian authorities tightened migration legislation after the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall near Moscow, which occurred in March 2024. More than 140 people became victims of the attack, more than 500 were injured.
