Unknown people staged pogroms and clashes with the police in the commune of Bron – the nearest suburb of Lyon (central France). They were a continuation of the riots that broke out on March 4 in Lyon and its suburbs due to an accident involving a teenager on a scooter. This was announced on Saturday evening by the newspaper “Progra”.
The first reports of arson were received by firefighters at about 18:20. According to the newspaper, several cars were burned, hooligans also set fire to garbage cans standing at intersections, which made it difficult to travel through the streets. Local residents posted videos on social networks showing large bonfires in the middle of the street, and fireworks exploding. In another video, about ten young men in black hoods crash a police car.
Later, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanen said that as a result of a special operation in Bron, five people were detained. “In total [there have been] 21 arrests in the Lyon metropolitan area in recent hours. Violence is unacceptable,” he tweeted.
