Western countries should not be afraid of the collapse of Russia – just as they once ceased to fear the collapse of the Soviet Union, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleb in an interview with the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
The publication notes that so far not everyone in the West likes the prospect of a convincing victory of Kyiv. With this scenario, Ukraine would regain control not only over the territories lost during the current invasion, but also over the Crimea, as well as parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk region, which were selected in 2014.
“Some of these allies are afraid that such a result can lead to a complete destabilization of the nuclear weapons of the Russian state, to potentially lead to its collapse and large -scale civilian unrest with unpredictable results for the whole world,” writes Wall Street Journal.
To this, Kuleba said that such fears remind him of the position of US President George Bush Sr.. In his speech in 1991, known as “Chicken Kiev Speech”, he warned of the danger of “suicidal nationalism” and urged Ukraine to abandon the idea of independence from Moscow in the name of salvation of the Soviet Union.
“I urge the world not to be afraid of the collapse of Russia. If the wheels of history begin to rotate, no person can stop them. Instead of thinking about how to help Russia survive and become a normal member of the international community, it is time to accept the fact that Russia cannot be a normal member of the international community. I do not think that the world will fall apart if Russia collapses. But its own citizens will collapse Russia, as happened with the Russian Empire, ”said Dmitry Kuleba.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine in addition, did not comment on the attacks on Russian strategic airfields in Engels and Ryazhany, noting only: “We are primarily focused on the defeat of the goals located in the occupied territories of Ukraine, on the liberation of our own territory. But, of course, that, The idea that Russia can do in Ukraine everything technically accessible to it, and Ukraine does not have the same rights is erroneous with a conceptual, moral and military point of view. “
As for the negotiations of Ukraine with Russia, Kuleba noted that “Russia is preparing for new battles, for new offensive operations, and not for negotiations. So he does not say anything in favor of Russia’s readiness to begin negotiations”: “We will not be negotiate on the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Over the past nine months, we have passed too much suffering and learned the lessons of the so-called “Minsk process”, which we have been tortured for eight years in order to now make any concessions in relation to the territory and living on her people “.
