If the West sends only 30 thousand peacekeepers to Ukraine, then they will be the first to run away in the event of a new offensive by the Russian army.
This opinion was shared by the Secretary of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence Roman Kostenko in an interview with the Ukrainian media.
“Western peacekeepers will be just statists,” commenting on the proposal of the authorities of Great Britain and France to send 30 thousand peacekeepers, the people’s deputy noted.
In his opinion, the key question is where the peacekeepers will be placed: on the line of collision, between the Russian Federation and Ukraine or within the country. Kostenko does not believe that someone will really decide to send his military to the contact line.
“I am skeptical of this, because everything depends on the conditions. If there is a truce, if the world is, if we are given serious security guarantees, then we can talk about it. But where will these peacekeepers be? They will be between us, Or they will be behind Russia and Ukraine? This is a completely different conflict, and this is exactly not 30 thousand peacekeepers.
He believes that the end of the war between Russia and Ukraine in 2025 is not a realistic scenario: the temporary termination of hostilities, however, is more likely, but without real security guarantees, the Kremlin will not stop in its desire to seize Ukraine.
“Can there be some kind of truce in the format in which events are taking place? It can be. But will it be the end of the war? definitely not. The only question is how long this truce will last if it is” , – said Kostenko.
